Course Overview (Summary)

The Level 3 First Aid at Work course prepares learners to respond confidently and effectively to a wide range of medical emergencies and injuries, both minor and life-threatening. The course includes all key elements of Basic Life Support, casualty assessment, trauma care, and the use of AEDs (defibrillators). Practical sessions, group scenarios, and formal assessments ensure competence and confidence in real-world situations.

Who Must Attend This Course? (Target Audience)

This is an advanced first aid qualification suitable for:

  • SIA Close Protection (CP) licence applicants – This course is a mandatory requirement for new applicants applying for a Close Protection Licence under SIA regulations.
  • Existing SIA Close Protection licence holders – Required to complete this course when renewing their CP licence (if not already holding a valid equivalent).
  • High-risk environment professionals – Security professionals, bodyguards, high-risk site workers, event safety staff.
  • Designated workplace first aiders – Employees in medium to high-risk settings (e.g., construction, manufacturing, logistics, nightclubs, etc.).
  • Managers and team leaders – Responsible for health and safety and emergency response plans.
  • Anyone requiring comprehensive first aid training – With a focus on critical incident management and lifesaving interventions.

SIA Close Protection Licensing Notes

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) requires that all individuals applying for a Close Protection Licence, or renewing an existing CP licence, hold a valid Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification (or equivalent, such as FREC Level 3). This must be:

  • Of at least 3 days duration
  • Valid at the time of licence application or renewal
  • Approved by an Ofqual-regulated awarding body

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) requires that all individuals applying for a Close Protection Licence, or renewing an existing CP licence, hold a valid Level 3 First Aid at Work qualification (or equivalent, such as FREC Level 3). This must be:
